HOW ARE YOU?

When you’re living through a loss that’s a difficult question to answer.

As a person who is struggling to hold it together, taking one step at a time, and trying desperately not to cry at the drop of a hat, it’s possible this question poses yet another internal battle for you. For instance, how do you even begin to share what’s going on inside? And is this even the time or place to open up and let them into my world of pain. And if I do, how do I know they are sincerely interested or if they’re just being polite? How can they even begin to understand what I’m going through?

A myriad of thoughts and feelings bombard a person shrouded in sorrow. You may be one of them with no idea who to trust with your broken heart and tears.

While common, these beliefs only hinder your recovery.

  • Don’t cry. What will people think?
  • Don’t feel bad. I ought to be grateful for…
  • Replace the loss. I’ve got to get on with my life.
  • Grieve alone so people don’t see me.
  • Give it time and I’ll get better.
  • Keep busy so I don't think about my situation.
  • Be strong because that's what people in my life want.

There is a way to complete your grief.

Helping Children Deal with Loss

Helping Children Deal with Loss

Educational Program designed for adults

Parents and those who work with children know how profoundly difficult it is to see a child hurt. But the pain our children experience isn’t always physical and can’t be resolved with antiseptics and gauze or a quick trip to the emergency room to set a broken bone.

Life events pose many confusing and difficult circumstances for which children are ill-equipped to navigate. Losses such as being bullied, the death of a pet, a friend from cancer, an overdose, suicide, or a car accident shakes their world.

Those who stand with them are impacted, also. Adults want to do something to help. They want to know what to say that might make a difference.

At a loss when trying to help children deal with grief?

The vast majority of parents, teachers, and those who work with children find themselves at a loss when trying to help children deal with any grieving experience that impacts them.

Often adults fear saying the wrong thing. They don’t know what’s going through the child’s mind and are unsure how they should respond to the child’s emotions or questions. They want to provide a safe place for the child to share what he/she is going through but don’t know how to do it themselves or exactly who to turn to for help.

Help children effectively deal with their broken heart.

This 4-week educational program is designed to teach parents and others who work with children, the necessary tools to help children effectively deal with their broken hearts, no matter the loss they are facing. This action-oriented program provides concrete suggestions of things to say and do to acknowledge the loss and help the grieving child in a healthy way.

Our children need you to develop the skills to help them walk through the unavoidable.

Pet Loss

Pet Loss

The loss of a pet can be emotionally devastating

As one who has been the recipient of a pet’s unconditional love and loyalty, you know how a pet can soften a person’s heart and provide a rich and rewarding championship for both for a lifetime.

Generally, that lifetime ends with the death of your faithful, furry friend.

Grief and Wellness Group | Blog | Saying Good-Bye To An Old Friend

The heartbreak of loosing a furry friend

Sadly, the impact of the heartbreak of this type of loss is often downplayed or ignored by friends and family. Frequently, well-meaning people will make comments that hurt or diminish the importance a pet, leaving the griever with few who can relate and with whom they can trust to share their pain.

6-session program for pet owners dealing with loss

This 6-session program is focused on offering pet owners an effective mechanism for taking action to move through and beyond their grief. In a safe, non-judgmental environment, the griever is able to process the loss and take the action steps necessary to complete their grief.

The Pet Loss Program is available in a small group setting or those who prefer greater confidentiality can request private sessions.

What Others Are Saying

Grief recovery helped me find my purpose in life. I believe my purpose is to help others. No one plans for the separation part of death. By attending a grief recovery class it gave me the tools to do what I needed to do.
